News & NotesÂ

I will never let an Arvydas Sasbonis reference go by without mentioning Craig Kilborn. Because remember: He’s not your-vydas, he’s not my-vydas, he’s Arvydas. He’s universal.
Let’s take a tour of the brand-new NBA.com! I miss the simplicity of the early Internet.
Oh, and in case you’re new to this whole interweb thing, here’s how you can access NBA.com:
Cover athlete David Robinson loves San Antonio! In the article, he says he wants to raise his kids there and would be a fool to leave. And the Admiral has been true to his word! A quick google search shows that while he did sell his home in 2011, he still stayed in San Antonio and only sold because he was downsizing after his kids moved out,
When you think of Alonzo Mourning, is he wearing a Hornets or Heat jersey?
Let’s get to know LaPhonso Ellis:
Here’s a look at Hakeem’s All-Star appearances. Did you know that he fouled out of the 1987 All-Star Game?
Speaking of that game, did you know that Tom Chambers replaced an injured Ralph Sampson on the East roster and went on to win All-Star MVP honors?
Say whaaaaat?Â
Look at the prizes for this sweepstakes! A week-long Walt Disney World vacation??? In 2024 dollars, that’s like a $40,000 value! (Not that much, but Disney is pretty dang expensive) You also get four tickets to an Orlando Magic Game and a Shaq and Hakeem autographed ball! Cool stuff! I spend way too much time thinking about who won these contests and if they still have the prizes. If I won an autographed ball when I was 12 or 13, I’d be ecstatic! I’d probably keep it on display for the rest of my life.
Here’s another fun contest where you guess the origin of each NBA team’s name. Three lucky winners get an authentic NBA jersey. Again, this is likely something that I’d keep for the rest of my life.
Best cardÂ
What is it about mid-90s card design? If the design is so busy that you can’t easily find the player's name, it’s too busy. I’m awarding Eric Williams this week’s winner since his card was easiest on the eyes. Moving on.
Do you know what would make for a good Instagram account? Someone who takes old card designs and makes them better. Unfortunately, that’s outside my wheelhouse, but I can see it being something fun. Free idea out into the universe! Someone take it and run with it.
